Dusktopia offers players a do-over
For as long as man has existed, everything we do, say, or experience shapes us into who we are today, whether we like it or not. In our reality, ruined reputation, accumulated debt, or a broken family takes years, possibly decades, to recover from. At one point or another, everyone has dreamed of starting over.
The metaverse has become a virtual world for people to be anyone they want to be. It is essentially an opportunity to freely start over, craft your story, and recreate your identity. You are not bound by the family you’ve been born into or the career path you chose for yourself. Instead, you get to start with a blank slate.
Born out of the attempted eradication of mankind, Dusktopia is set in the year 2157 and is ruled by the Cabal, a group of aristocrats who carried out the genocide to rule with an iron fist. At the launch of this world-building faction game, players get the opportunity to participate in rebuilding the shattered societies by acquiring plots of land and avatars to create the identity that they have always dreamed of.
Players can build their world and choose their identity
Incorporating the world of NFTs, this metaverse strategy game allows players to collect and trade in-game assets to grow their bases, establish their reputation, and earn $DAWN utility tokens. Dusktopia is releasing three collections of NFTs in the form of land plots, properties, and avatars. These are the building blocks of a brand new world that players can design and customize to their preferences.
To kick start their gameplan, Dusktopia released 5,555 NFT land plots in May 2022. As an incentive for players to acquire land plots with the best $DAWN multiplier (more on this later), these NFT land plots are the only source of $DAWN generation. For the next collection, property NFTs will be released, which can be ‘rented’ out for $DAWN if the holder does not own a plot of land. Properties are fully customizable with in-game accessories and can be used to feature other non-native NFTs.
The final NFT launch before the game’s release is set for the final quarter of 2022, where 9,999 Dusktopia avatars will be up for grabs. Through these avatars, players may work their way up to the top, lead a coalition of mobsters, or strive to be the next ruler of the community. These endless possibilities give players room to explore, innovate, and strategize their next move. This is likely to appeal to people from all walks of life, as they simply need a desire to recreate their story in the metaverse. High community adoption will increase the game’s value and ultimately bring higher returns for the player’s assets.
Enhanced gamification allows players to increase $DAWN yield based on scale of ownership
Many NFT games in the market today create NFTs with varying values based on rarity. Someone with more money can invest in a super rare NFT that will bring the highest returns. This results in a high barrier of entry because players who want to establish a wealthy reputation in the metaverse must already be wealthy in the real world.
The Dusktopia development team wanted to change this, so they created an economic system as similar to the real world as possible. For context, there are two types of land (2×1 or 4×1). Because a 4×1 plot of land covers more area, it would naturally have a higher value. However, the traits (or functional properties) of the land also affects the value.
Instead of having to own a super rare plot of land to get a high $DAWN yield, players can own a few plots of 2×1 with multiple F&B/retail outlets that would actually generate more $DAWN than someone who owns a rare 4×1 plot of land. This significantly lowers the barrier of entry, giving more people access to the community and ultimately generates a high $DAWN yield, even if they cannot ‘afford’ a super rare, high-value plot of land. Higher community appeal and adoption may ultimately contribute to the long-term success of this project.
Delayed founder payments suggest a team geared up for long-term success
Amidst the flood of NFT games, not many teams are completely upfront about the allocation of their monetary resources. If they are asking people to invest in their NFTs, then this should be one of the more important pieces of the puzzle that is shared with the public early on, so that the community (read: shareholders) of this project know how their money is used.
As an open book, Dusktopia laid out a delayed schedule for founder payments. The first half of payments will be only be distributed two months after mint out and the second half another two months later. The purpose of this is to show the public that the team is fully invested in the sustainability of this project. This transparency likely decreases the chances of a rug pull, which builds greater trust and credibility.
The team also revealed a back-up plan if the project fails to mint out within one month. Mint proceeds will be divided amongst the team based on pre-agreed percentages. This intentional allocation of resources prevents the team from imploding as a result of financial disputes and allows for greater accountability with the community.
Dusktopia may set the new standard for profitable world-building in the metaverse
Based on the information that has been released to date, Dusktopia seems like an enticing opportunity to build a new world and identity in the metaverse. The possible lower barrier of entry to own an NFT plot of land may open the door for greater adoption and likely increase the value of the game and the players’ assets. All of this is backed by a development team that seems open to transparency and accountability of financial allocation of resources.
Some considerations before jumping all in would be the true credibility of the team. In this day and age, many know how to create a facade by saying what you want to hear. Especially in the world of NFTs, a team that is not fully doxxed may raise some concerns within the community. In addition, their economic ecosystem may seem complicated at first glance, which may be a drawback for those who aren’t ready to dig deeper to understand it.
With that said, the time invested in creating a captivating lore and a unique opportunity to participate in building a new world certainly is an invitation like no other. My pennies’ worth of thoughts says it is worth your time and consideration. If you are looking to build a world from ground zero and define your identity in the metaverse, look no further.
